Sheffield Design Awards 2009 [repost]

[Originally posted 11.02.09 – slight edit on 18.07.12]

Tonight was the Sheffield Design Awards 2009, organised by Sheffield Civic Trust, who I’ve done some work for. Amidst the architectural glitz at the Showroom cinema, a couple of the projects I’d been involved with were up for awards. The Sorby House redevelopment in Burngreave was on the longlist, and the Vestry Hall won a Commendation. And a building that I’ve liked since its gone up won a people’s award – the soon (I’m sure) to be infamous Sheffield Cheese Grater car park, near Sheffield Hallam University. My son voted for it, and I came close… The overall winner was the wonderful Information Commons at the University of Sheffield.

Quite a few of these buildings feature on the ‘Build‘ pages of my website.
