Haiti: Beyond the Rubble exhibition – 2

Twenty five days to go.  The second image in the exhibition is also rubble related.  Although the whole point of the exhibition is to take visitors beyond the destroyed buildings into people’s lives, the context is obviously important, and the sense of physical destruction surrounds you everywhere you go in Port au Prince.  The extraordinary thing in some ways is how much was still standing – sometimes as you’re driving down a street, there’s a string of houses or businesses that look fine, and sitting in the middle of a row is a totally collapsed house or shop.  In other parts of the city there was near total devastation.  This picture, from March 2010 again, shows an area where very little was left standing.
