Haiti: Beyond the Rubble exhibition – 19

Up in the hills south of Leogane, Tearfund is working to rebuild schools that were destroyed by the earthquake.  Tearfund have a base in the market town of Tom Gato, and worked extensively with the schools in that neighbourhood.  Initially they built temporary schools from tarpaulins on wooden frames, to get schools back in action as quickly as possible.  Later they’ve built transitional schools, which are wooden with tin roofs, which are good for 5-10 years, and are earthquake and hurricane resistant.  The plan is to build more permanent structures over time.
