Haiti: Beyond the Rubble exhibition – 38
Tearfund has been building transitional schools in the mountains surrounding the city of Léogâne since the earthquake. These structures are quake- and hurricane-resistant and are doubling up as church buildings for many communities.
In Sous-Carrefour, 45 minutes north of the city up a rough dirt track, it is standing room only at 8am on a Sunday morning as Pastor Elianne Joseph addresses his jubilant community.
‘After the earthquake, we didn’t have a centre for our community and nowhere to meet. Tents and tarpaulins are too hot. This [building] has changed the community.’
