people I know winning things!

The British Press Photographers’ Year awards are out today, and the exhibition opens at the National Theatre today too.  There’s a really strong set of pics, unusual and beautiful winning image, and people I know (even if some are only electronically…) have won stuff – what’s not to like?

Congratulations to Tim Smith for his winning photo essay on tea (slide 94 in the slideshow), Bethany Clarke for her Sierra Leone (slide 85) and portrait (slide 76) wins, and Kieran Dodds for his Highlander multi-media win.  And although I don’t know him at all, I really loved Andrew McConnell’s amazing story of fishing in the Congo river – terrifying (slides 97-99).
