Twenty :: Thailand
Part 2 of my occasional series of posts to mark my first twenty years of working as a professional photographer.
Tearfund has a trading arm called Created (formerly known as Tearcraft), selling beautiful hand made products made in some of the poorest communites around the world. While on staff at Tearfund, I photographed a number of these producer groups, and one of the most memorable was Thai Tribal Crafts based in Chiang Mai (I’m not sure of their current status as a supplier to Created – my visit and this image date from 1998). It was all very peaceful, with stunning countryside, but also a lot of poverty in the hill tribe villages – using their traditional weaving and craft skills, the Karen women we met were able to support their families.
