‘I’m not old, I’m beautiful…’
I don’t really want the last thing on my blog for a while to be something just about me. So, here’s a photo of a woman whose words have stuck with me. I visited her in Ethiopia around three weeks ago. In fact, we visited her twice, but at the end of the first (early evening) visit, she was leaning against a tree and saying something while laughing. I asked our translator what she’d said, and he replied ‘she says – I’m not old, I’m beautiful’. And she was. Her name is Tirame Ayago (55).
I’ve spent a lot of the last twenty years of photography trying to find beauty and hope in all sorts of unlikely places. It’s nice when it’s right there in front of you.
See you soon! And thanks to Toilet Twinning again.
