twenty :: rwanda

Twenty is a series of images reflecting on my first twenty years as a photojournalist.

Two in a row now from a visit I made to Rwanda in 1999, five years after the genocide, with my excellent colleague Tim. The visit was focussed on children who’d been orphaned by the genocide and HIV, and how they were being helped by Tearfund‘s local partners.

Tomorrow’s post will have a bit more about this project in Kigali, but this picture is one that has carried a lot of resonance in its simplicity and the possibility of a bit of hope in this situation.
